Pakistan Foreign Office summons Indian envoy over LoC firing
Published at: 5 weeks ago

Islamabad: The Foreign Office (FO) summoned the Indian deputy high commissioner to record a protest over a cross-border attack along the Line of Control (LoC).

Indian forces had resorted to unprovoked firing across the Line of Control (LoC) in the Chirikot sector, said a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s public relations wing.

The firing by Indian forces had resulted in the death of two civilians and injured five others.

The FO's South Asia chief handed over a protest letter to the Indian diplomat and condemned the repeated ceasefire violations by India.

Earlier today, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited Headquarters Rawalpindi Corps and said that there cannot be any let up in the Army's preparedness and response against the perpetual threat on the eastern border.

Earlier in November, the army chief and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi visited the LoC and condemned the unprofessional approach, of targetting civilians residing in the area, by Indian forces and reiterated that Pakistan would continue to provide political, moral and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people for their struggle.

Incidents of firing from across the border have increased after the right-wing government of Narendra Modi came to power and has caused significant material and human loss. Indian forces have used medium and heavy weapons in recent times to target the civilian population of AJK.
