Assets reference: Investigation officer to record statement against Ishaq Dar today

Islamabad: The accountability court conducting assets beyond means case proceedings against former finance minister Senator Ishaq Dar will record the statement of investigation officer (IO) Nadir Abbas today.

Investigation officer of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Nadir Abbas is to appear before the court on February 14 to record his statement after he could not appear in the last hearing owing to illness.

The accountability court has recorded statement of at least 27 witnesses so far including head of Panama Papers Joint Investigation Team (JIT) Wajid Zia.

NAB has contested in the court against Dar that the federal minister accumulated assets worth Rs 83crore beyond his means. The court is to deliver verdict over Dar’s petition against order of seizure of his property on Wednesday.

As Accountabity Court-I Judge Mohammad Bashir began today's proceedings, the NAB prosecutor informed him that they require some time to present the IO in court.

The judge then adjourned the proceedings until 11:30am today.

The court is to deliver verdict in the assets beyond means case in the ongoing month.

Dar is accused by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) of possessing assets disproportionate to his declared sources of income. A reference against him was filed in September last year in light of the Supreme Court's July 28 judgment in the Panama Papers case.

Earlier this week, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had rejected nomination papers of Ishaq Dar to contest for Senate elections that are scheduled in March.
